After this first semester of English, I feel as though I have mastered imagery very well and how it affects the structure and content.
Here is a sample of me using imagery about the beach in Florida:
Walking on the warm sandy shores, listening to the the rushing of the cool waves, my feet sinking slowly with every step. The moist salty air, slowly caressing my face and hair as I proceed towards the water. As I walk towards the shore the water seems to slowly kiss the tips of my toes...
In that paragraph you can see that imagery of the sand and air of the beach. The audience is anyone who walks on the beach of anyone who has ever been to a beach. My purpose was to show and not tell how the sand and water feel on my feet and what's around the beach.

Blog 2- Learning Outcome 3
In my AP Spanish Literature class, we read the novel Don Quijote, which is a spanish book based on an elderly man, Don Quitjote, and decides he wants to be a knight. Don Quijote imagines a lot of different things and has a problem with his head. He goes on adventure with his side-kick and gets into trouble.
It is easy to see that the novel demonstrated an awareness of how the language and meaning are shaped by the culture and context.
The novel is based in Spain and the spanish culture is very strong and noticeable throughout the book. When Don Quijote decides to be a knight, he said the culture and tradition is to have to go on an adventure and get knighted by a knight. Also, he has to pick a formal knight name before he can start his adventure. "...and to style himself Don Quijote of La Mancha, whereby, he considered, he described accurately his origin and country, and did honor to it in taking his surname from it." That quote shows how the spanish culture shaped the meaning and context of Don Quijote.
Another way the language was shaped by the culture is that because the author of Don Quijote, Miguel de Cervantes, was from a different region of Spain where they spoke Vasco, a variation of spanish, Cervantes changed the spelling of the words from castellano to vasco, like when he changed "bosque"to "busque".

During the first couple of weeks of schools, as a class, we read an article from Oprah about women obesity. We analyzed how the audience and purpose of the article affected the structure and content of the text.
In the article, her audience is older women who struggle with obesity or even just weight problems. Oprah can relate to her audience by telling them that she has struggled with her weight problems. Oprah also identifies and gains the trust of her audience by using "we" and "you" which means she is saying that her and her audience are in the same boat because she has been through the process of losing weight too. Oprah said, "whether we want to lose weight, reach a career goal, or improve our relationships, it's human to look for the easy way out...". With that quote from her article, you can see how she uses "we" in her article so she is comfortable with her audience.
The purpose of the article is to inspire women to never give up with the problems of weight and overcome the problem. "And if you decide to rise and create a new experience for yourself, I know for sure that you can attain it the old-fashioned way- through hard work." That quote shows her purpose in her article and wants to inspire her audience.
The audience and purpose affects the structure and content of the text by with her being comfortable with her audience and being obvious with her purpose she can get right to the point with her content. She uses longer, more elaborated paragraphs that tell personal and other stories.
